Sparkles Montesorri Kindergarten had their year-end concert on November 17, 2007. So far, we’ve went to 3 of them before (2 for Shahira and 1 earlier mid-year concert for Haris). This time round however, it was held at the National Science Centre in Bukit Kiara (a first for them I think).

This was good because Mama never had the chance to visit the National Science Centre prior to this; and now she gets to go in for free!

Expectedly, Haris was very excited about the concert months in advance. A couple of weeks before the actual date, he would ask Papa everyday, on the way to school- “Is the Concert on this Saturday?” Much like the Petronas ad- (“Burung apa ni, Abah?” “Buring Murai.”), Papa answered his questions patiently each time…. over and over.

So, the day of reckoning has finally arrived. The whole thing was themed- “At the Zoo”. For the intro song, all the kiddies wore animal headgears and sung “We’re Going To the Zoo… zoo… zoo… How about you?…”
Haris was an elephant, and seemed to enjoy performing very much. All in all, the whole affair was quite lengthy and they broke it into 2 performances each for each segment- one for the daycare and the other for the kindie kiddies. But to be sure, everyone was very cute in their own way. There was this one girl, who refused to sing or do the dance moves, but still will go on stage everytime. She’ll just shake her hear when the teachers prompt her to sing and dance.

Apart from the intro, they went into ditties like- Rasa Sayang Eh, Ke Ren Lai, some short plays, and even did the Macarena! The kindie kids had to do a poem recital about them learning while playing. Haris had the following lines he had to recite with his partner, Nur Ain: -
“When you see me cooking or tasting food
Please don’t think I’m just playing
I’m learning to see the differences
I may be a chef one day.”
He also played a doctor when it was someone else’s turn to recite. Morale of the story is parents should let their kids play, as its part of their learning process. Wished the same argument can be used when Papa is playing with the Wii!

This time round, the teachers wanted the parents to also participate at the end. Parents had to do the Macarena for their kids. Luckily, Papa’s spider sense tingled before the announcement, and he took the now fidgety Alisha out of the concert hall to look at the kids’ handicrafts. Heh heh!
They served some light refreshments before everyone went off to explore the exhibits and experiments abound. Mama was delirious with excitement- worse than the kids. Leaping from one experiment to the next, trying them out… hee hee hee… a slight exaggeration… only.
Being Government funded, the facility was not strangely government-like in operation. 5ish, and it was closing time (on a Saturday!). No announcements… no apologies… lights out literally. It was a very disappointing end to a somewhat exciting day for the kiddies (and not to mention Mama)
